Marienlyst Strandhotel has joined the Elsinore 2032 association. As a result, the iconic experience and conference hotel will become an active partner in the effort to advance the city’s bid for the title of European Capital of Culture in 2032.

For Marienlyst Strandhotel, membership is about expanding the city’s visitor profile to include new segments—particularly cultural tourists and international conferences—who typically stay longer at the destination and engage with the area’s cultural and urban life.

The Capital of Culture project is seen as an opportunity to strengthen Elsinore’s position as a coastal and cultural city, forge new cross-sector partnerships, and enhance the appeal of both the city and the region.

“We support the ambition to make Elsinore the European Capital of Culture in 2032,” says Michael Lauritsen, director of Marienlyst Strandhotel. “We already attract a wide variety of guests, and with the Capital of Culture designation, we’ll have the opportunity to expand our offerings even further. Cultural tourists and international conferences will experience a city and a hotel that have something truly special to offer—and that are eager to bring them into closer contact with the local community.”

“A strong ‘Capital of Culture 2032’ project can draw new attention to Elsinore as the region’s cultural hub. It will benefit the city, the business community, and the destination as a whole. We’d like to help make it happen,” says Michael Lauritsen.

The Elsinore 2032 Association works to bring together local and regional stakeholders around a comprehensive application for the title of European Capital of Culture, based on community, free thinking, and Elsinore’s unique location between Denmark and Sweden. Experience from European Capitals of Culture shows that cultural projects of this scale typically result in both stronger local communities and a more diverse tourism economy.

An analysis conducted by Deloitte for the City of Helsingør estimates that a Capital of Culture project could create 1,100 jobs, generate significant tax revenue, and boost the tourism and business sectors. Experience from other Capital of Culture cities shows that the title attracts new visitor segments and international conferences, both of which can contribute to local development.

““Marienlyst Strandhotel is a key business player in the city, which not only hosts guests but also employs people from all over the world. It’s a name that many associate with Elsinore, making it a natural hub for conferences, major events, and guests from around the globe,” says Jens Frimann Hansen, chairman of Elsinore 2032. “The hotel’s decision to join us strengthens our efforts to attract new target groups and create a project that elevates both the culture and the city’s overall development.”
