On Friday evening, September 30, 2022, both Espergærde and Helsingør will be buzzing with life. Shops, businesses, and cultural institutions will be open. Both cities will be overflowing with activities, and as if that wasn't enough, Elsinore 2032, in collaboration with our member companies, invites you to a series of events featuring artists, authors, musicians, and politicians – all with free admission.

HAN turns 10 – meet Michael Elmgreen for a chat about gender and art

It wasn't just in the empty shipyard halls, but all over Helsingør that there was a buzz when the artist duo Dragsted & Elmgreen created the artwork HAN ten years ago. The debate in Dagbladet turned the town's collective soul inside out and uncovered homophobic undercurrents. But as only art can, at its best, HAN heralded a new era for Helsingør as a cultural metropolis. Join one of the artists, Michael Elmgreen, and editor-in-chief Josephine Vedel for a conversation about gender and art, ten years after HAN arrived in town.

TIME: 16:30
LOCATION: VÆRFTETS FOOD MARKET, NY KRONBORGVEJ 2

Meet Stine Askov and share literature tips at the town's bookstore – Rumhelt plays live

The bookstore in Helsingør is a key focal point in the 2022 novel Nøjsomhed. The book's main character puts yellow notes with short reviews on the spines of the shop's books, creating almost a cult following among customers. Meet Stine Askov in conversation with Aslak Gottlieb and put your own yellow notes on the book spines at Bog & Idé. The local cult band, Rumhelt, will play live and Wines of Langedouc will offer a glass of wine.

TIME: 18:00
LOCATION: BERGMANN BOG & IDÉ, STENGADE 23

Sea Spray Between the Lines – Author Talk with Carsten Jensen

The sea and seafaring play a crucial role in Carsten Jensen's key novel We, the Drowned. The story is set in Marstal, where Carsten Jensen was born and spent half of his childhood. Based on the work, we'll talk about the mythological significance of shipping in a port city and how it has inspired great literary narratives in general. Aslak Gottlieb will host and guide the session, so you, as the audience, will have the opportunity to participate.

After the talk, there will be an open house where the company's employees will give tours and tell the stories behind the many exhibited ship models. With advanced virtual reality equipment, you'll get the chance to take a simulated trip on an Australian research icebreaker or see how high up they dare to go aboard the world's largest wind turbine installation vessel.

Films and 3D animations about the company's latest projects and new constructions will be shown. Finally, there's a chance to revisit films and parts of the exhibition from the Maritime Museum about the polar ship Nella Dan.

TIME: 19:00
LOCATION: KNUD E. HANSEN, CLAESSENSVEJ 1

What's Culture Got to Do with It? – Cultural Policy Panel Debate with Local Parliamentary Candidates

Helsingør is known for being one of the municipalities in the country that spends the most money on culture. But what do our parliamentary politicians actually think about it? What is culture to them? Why should the public invest money in culture? Who should benefit from these investments? And what do they think about Helsingør applying to become the Capital of Culture in 2032? The debate will be moderated by Palle Høj, editor-in-chief of Frederiksborg Amts Avis, who will also give the audience a chance to join in and engage in direct dialogue with local parliamentary candidates Birgitte Bergman (K), Kari Jørgensen (V), Henrik Møller (S), Christian Holm Donatzky (R).

LOCATION: BARNADO, BRAMSTRÆDE 5

Afterparty with Suwalski and Solomon

End Kulturnatten (Culture Night) with cocktails and good company as world music artists Katrine Suwalski and Ayi Solomon improvise on Kulturnatten's theme, FISH. Katrine is a jazz saxophonist and has played with multi-percussionist Ayi Solomon for a number of years. Their sound is African-inspired, but expect us to explore a wide range of rhythmic genres when the duo offers their very own musical bouillabaisse.
