Niels Lan Doky and his international ensemble will present a concert experience that explores jazz's ability to bring people together. The music will draw threads from various cultures and traditions, and the freedom of improvisation will be celebrated as a symbol of democracy in action.
For decades, Niels Lan Doky has worked across cultures and genre boundaries to promote the power of jazz as a universal language. "Jazz is a collective and interactive art form, but the music is just a language – not the story itself. We use the language to tell stories – and to communicate. That's why you could say that every conversation is a form of jazz. Jazz is the language of freedom and collaboration, and life itself is the ultimate improvisation," Niels Lan Doky explains about the background for the lecture-concert.
