Thanks to sponsors from Helsingør's local businesses, we can decorate Tikøb, Espergærde, and Helsingør with beautiful posters for this year's Culture Night.

“This is a dream job! Culture Night across all of Helsingør is a real flagship event for everyone who lives here. So it's truly special to be asked to design this year's poster. I'm so proud to be able to contribute,” says Jonas Lønborg, a poster artist with a studio in Espergærde.

The experienced graphic designer is certainly well-known locally. Jonas Lønborg is the creator of the newly iconic program cover for Wonderful Copenhagen's 2023 tourist brochure. With a Hamlet skull as the backdrop for a bustling crowd scene, he has previously shown how he visually captures Helsingør's unique character – and soul.

“We chose an artist who really gets the three key elements: culture, community, and commerce across all of Helsingør. As a local resident, Jonas experiences firsthand every day what we can achieve as a host city when different players team up for a project like Culture Night. So, he was our top pick when we put out the call for this assignment,” explains Aslak Gottlieb, chairman of the Culture Night steering committee.

The poster is proudly sponsored by some strong supporters from the local business community. At Sparekassen Sjælland-Fyn, they're really well aware of how important culture is for the city's economic growth and social cohesion. Branch Manager Michael Hartoft explains why the bank is sponsoring the artist's fee:

“It's totally obvious in a city aiming to be a European Capital of Culture that we in the private business sector support projects like Culture Night. It's crucial for the city's commerce to have an active cultural scene, and for the cohesion that keeps things running smoothly day-to-day. Cross-cutting cultural events really help bring the city together and make Helsingør Municipality a unique destination, both for residents and visitors.”

The poster is being printed pro bono by Backe&Ko and will be unveiled at a press conference at Sparekassen Sjælland-Fyn in Helsingør on Monday, September 2nd, at 10:00 AM.

ABOUT THE POSTER

  • The poster features a moon in warm tones against a dark blue background, set above a simplistic sea.
  • The moon is made up of around 400 objects, mainly vintage illustrations, with most of them related to North Zealand to varying degrees.
  • The objects' theme is a mix of flora, fauna, science, the sea, and culture.
  • The hope is that the poster will draw people in, spark their curiosity, and encourage them to explore.
  • It can be downloaded here and may be published from 2/9-24, 12 PM, with clear attribution to the artist's name:

Jonas Lönberg is an industrial designer trained at the Danish Design School and has worked with graphic design for 25 years. In recent years, he has primarily focused on his own projects, especially collages and poster art, but he has also found time to complete graphic assignments for clients such as the Open Air Museum, Helsingør Health Center, Kronborg Castle, and the National Museum. His latest project has been writing a children's book about a duck with big dreams, which he is now illustrating.

Jonas has a studio in Espergærde, where he also lives with his wife and two daughters, plus a small flock of chickens. When he's not working in front of his computer or sketchbook, he spends his time reading books, on building projects in the garden, and enjoying nature as a scout leader with the Espergærde Scouts.

INFO

  • Culture Night in Tikøb takes place on Friday, September 20th.
  • Culture Night in Helsingør and Espergærde takes place on September 27th.

The Elsinore 2032 association has been the secretariat for Culture Night since 2023, an event that has existed for over 30 years. All participants are welcome to contribute with events, big or small, which can be announced in the joint program on www.kulturnathelsingor.dk/2024.

The Culture Night steering committee consists of the participants who wish to contribute to the work. It meets four times a year to agree on the framework. In 2023, the steering committee adopted a three-year development plan leading up to the market town anniversary in 2026.

As part of the plan, participants are testing a digital solution in 2024 to make it easier to navigate the many offerings during the evening and find their way around. The plan also includes a special event for young people.

Also new for the evening itself, the steering committee is collaborating with Helsingør Dagblad and Helsingør Museums on a cultural-historical quiz that works like a treasure hunt around the city and past the newspaper's editorial office, where there will be an "open Culture Night office" all evening.

Culture Night is supported by Helsingør Municipality.
